LaGRANGE — Downtown LaGrange’s free summer music and movie series has a new home and a new name. Beginning Friday, June 3, the summer series moves from Lafayette Square to Sweetland’s great lawn.

Along with the new location, comes a new name: Sunsets at Sweetland. Plans are for the free music and movie series to extend beyond summer into fall.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic or carryout from a downtown eatery along with blankets to enjoy an evening of live music and an outdoor movie under the stars on Sweetland’s great lawn. Adirondack chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sweetland’s gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Limited concessions will be available for sale. The series is a picnic approved event, which means outside food and beverage may be brought into the venue.

See Sweetland.events for more details about picnic approved events.

Upcoming Sunsets at Sweetland event dates include the first Fridays of June, July and August.

Programs begin at 7 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. Sweetland gates will open at 6:30 p.m. prior to each event.

On Friday, June 3, local band Doublewide Revival will play from 7 until 9 p.m.

Cast members from LaFayette Theatre Academy and Young Singers of West Georgia will also be present to promote the upcoming summer productions of “Disney’s Aladdin Jr.” and “Grease.” Disney’s “Aladdin” movie will be shown at dusk.

Red, White & Blue Friday on July 1 will feature a patriotic concert by the Community Orchestra, and the movie “Max” will be shown. For the Red, White & Blue event, a limited number of round dining tables may be reserved for no charge.

Event goers can enjoy the Community Orchestra’s concert while they dine next to the amphitheater stage. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated dining tables.

The Aug. 5 event will feature another local cover band and the movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Event goers are encouraged to come dressed in their Star Wars gear and costumes, light sabers are also welcome.
