THOMASTON – The Troup National baseball team is hoping to get another shot at Hogansville.

Before that rematch can become a reality, though, Troup National will have to take care of business against Manchester today in the Dixie Youth Baseball 11-12-year-old District 1 tournament in Thomaston.

Troup National opened its tournament stay with a heart-breaking 5-4 loss to Hogansville on Saturday in a game where it had a two-run lead with two outs in the sixth inning.

Hogansville ended up tying the game to force extra innings, and it scored a run in the seventh inning to get the dramatic win.

With that loss, Troup National fell into the loser’s bracket, and it was supposed to play Thomaston on Monday.

Thomaston forfeited the game, though, so Troup National ended up with a day off while Hogansville and Manchester played.

Manchester lost to Hogansville 4-2, so it will play Troup National at 7 p.m. today in an elimination game.

It’s a critical game.

The winner will advance to the championship round, while also securing one of the district’s two invitations to the state tournament.

The losing team, meanwhile, will see its season come to an end.

If Troup National wins today, it would play Hogansville again on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

If Hogansville wins on Wednesday, the tournament will be over and it will be the district champion.

If Hogansville loses Wednesday’s game, though, a winner-take-all game will be played on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Also today, the final two teams still standing in the 9-10-year-old District 1 tournament at the Harris Baseball Complex will meet.

Thomaston, which is 2-0, will face Manchester (1-1) at 6 p.m.

If Thomaston wins, it will claim the district title, but if Manchester wins, a final game will be played on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Thomaston and Manchester have both qualified for the state tournament.
