LaGRANGE — One man suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after his car flipped and hit a power pole in the 800 block of North Greenwood Street.

The victim turned from Mooty Bridge Road and was southbound on North Greenwood Street just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, said LaGrange police. The driver told officers a car pulled in front of his 2016 Dodge Journey, causing him to swerve, lose control and flip the vehicle several times, striking a business sign and wooden power pole before landing in the northbound lane.

The man had cuts on his hands, said LaGrange police. No other vehicles were hit in the wreck and no one was hurt.

The crash bent the pole, which made power lines drape low over North Greenwood Street. At one point, LaGrange police had the road blocked from Mitchell Avenue to near the Shell station at the corner of Mooty Bridge Road.

The LaGrange Fire Department responded to the wreck and kept an eye on the leaning pole and power lines until a utility crew with the city arrived. The electricity to some of the homes and businesses in the surrounding area was knocked out until crews could repair the damage.

Charges against the driver of the Journey were pending, said LaGrange police on Thursday.

Officers believe speed played a part in the wreck. The driver also allegedly told a sheriff’s deputy who came across the accident that he was tired at the time of crash, said police.
