Smith named county employee of the month

LaGRANGE — Troup County Sheriff’s Sgt. Stewart Smith was named the county’s employee of the month at Tuesday’s regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting.

Smith previously worked with Troup County 911 center and is presently with the sheriff’s office where he is assigned as the public information officer.

Smith has been employed with Troup County for almost 19 years.

At the sheriff’s office, he is responsible for publishing the annual report and administering the department’s social media pages. In addition, he is assigned to keep track of daily statistics pertinent to the sheriff’s office and oversees such activities as the neighborhood watch program, the junior deputy program, the Sheriff for a Day Program and the Sheriff’s Academy for Youth. Smith is also responsible for contacts with the media in the form of press releases and interviews.

Smith heads the crime prevention program, where he speaks to churches, schools and civic groups about various law enforcement subjects. Smith also volunteers as an advisor for the Explorer Program at the Sheriff’s Office.
