LaGRANGE — The Georgia State Patrol continues its investigation into a one-car wreck that killed one person on Interstate 85 about a mile south of the Whitesville Road exit.

Troopers found the car among some trees along the northbound lanes of I-85 after receiving a call from someone who reported the wreck, said Sgt. 1st Class Maurice Raines, commander of GSP post 2 LaGrange.

When troopers arrived on scene about 9 a.m. Friday, they discovered the car had slammed into a tree. The driver was deceased.

GSP is not sure if the crash happened late Thursday night or early Friday morning, Raines said.

Troopers did not release the victim’s name pending notification of family, but said the victim was from West Point.
