Battle of the Bands set for Saturday

LaGRANGE — LaGrange College is slated to present the annual Battle of the Bands competition Saturday at Sweetland Amphitheatre.
The event, part of the Sunsets at Sweetland series, is free and open to the public. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the competition begins at 6 p.m. Outside food and drink will be allowed, and limited concessions will be available for purchase.
A total of six bands are slated to compete in two categories.
The first category, teen bands, is set to have two bands compete.
The first teen band, Gossamer, is a heavy-groove rock band led by Bryson Smith, with fellow members Michael Bailey as backup vocalist and drummer, and James “Flute” Hunt on bass guitar.
The second teen band, Ultraviolet, is an alternative rock band led by vocalist and guitarist Alaina McGee, with member Liam McDonald on cajon, which is a Peruvian percussion instrument, and guitarists Evan Newsome and Will Roberts.
Competitors in the adult band category include Josh Kimbrell and the Honey Buns Band, which bills itself as a psychedelic rock band. It is comprised of Devin Bolan as lead vocalist and guitarist, Josh Kimbrell as backup vocalist and bass guitarist, with drummer Sam McDonald.
The Alcotts, an alternative rock band, is also set to compete. The band features lead vocalist and guitarist Corbin Hoats, vocalist Steffi Ledbetter, lead guitarist Ralph Groover, bassist Zach Watson and drummer Terry Craft.
Ryan Slice, a rock ‘n’ roll guitarist and vocalist, joins the competition with Jared Davison on drums.
The Soothing Sounds of Raul will be the final competitor in the adult category.
A panel of local music professionals will serve as judges and the winners will receive a cash prize along with a recording session at Josh and Sandy East’s Neobolical Records recording studio, and a chance to perform concerts at Pure Life Studios on Clark Street, as well as next year’s Battle of the Bands.
After the competition, Sweetbay, winner of 2015 Battle of the Bands, will perform a concert to close out the evening.
