Columnist: Trump is a liar

As I have written, I plan to vote for Hillary Clinton in November. Again, she has many faults. I am supporting her because, in good conscience, I cannot vote for Donald Trump.

Trump is totally incompetent to be the commander in chief. I fear that he would be stupid enough to get us involved in a nuclear war.

His admiration for Putin of Russia scares me to death. Vladimir Putin is responsible for killing several of his political enemies. He is a former KGB member involved in espionage, murder and the torturing of political opponents. Yet, Trump has praised him many times.

Donald Trump has said many times that Russia should steal Hillary Clinton’s emails. He claims that he was only joking. In my opinion that is nothing to joke about. He should be ashamed to want a foreign government to involve itself in an American presidential race.

Why doesn’t Trump release his tax returns? He claims that he is waiting for an audit by the IRS. There is no legal problem for Trump to initiate the release. He is procrastinating because he has something to hide.

If you listen to Trump, he offers only generalities when talking about what he will do for the economy. He promises massive tax cuts for everyone, including the billionaires.

At the same time, he promises to leave many social programs alone. How is he going to pay for more defense spending, Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid? He never gives specific details on how he’ll balance the budget.

Let’s face it, Donald J. Trump is a liar. He has lied many times. Recently he said that President Obama founded ISIS, along with Clinton. He said this many times. He now says that he was being sarcastic. I don’t believe anything he says.

Last week he said that he was not ready to back Paul Ryan and John McCain. Two days later he supported both men. Trump wouldn’t know the truth even though it slapped him in the face.

Months ago Trump said that he would not let Muslims come into America. Like many other situations, he changed his mind and backed away from his original statement.

Many Republicans are upset with Trump’s outrageous comments. Some, like Meg Whitman, are endorsing Clinton. Others, like Sen. Susan Collins, will vote neither for Trump nor Clinton.

I am literally surprised at how many Republicans are speaking out against their presidential nominee. Even two former Republican presidents will not support him.

I have a good friend who lives in Atlanta. My friend is a Republican and always votes for Republicans. This year, however, he will not and cannot vote for Donald Trump. Neither will he vote for Clinton. Put simply, he will vote only for local Republicans.

Yes, most people in Troup will vote for Trump. Thank God we have the right to vote. I also believe Trump will win Georgia. Some people might say that my vote is a waste of time. I don’t think that way. I vote because millions of our soldiers died so that I can vote. I personally can’t let them down.
