Busy weekend ahead for softball teams

LAGRANGE – It’ll be a busy few days for the local softball teams.

Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will all be at Shuford Fields this weekend for the Callaway Classic, and each of the teams involved will play a total of five games.

They’ll each play two games on Friday, and three more on Saturday to complete the hectic weekend.

The Troup Lady Tigers will look to stay red-hot.

Since dropping their first two games of the season, the Lady Tigers have won three in a row, including Wednesday’s 11-2 win over Sandy Creek that evened their Region 5-AAAA record at 1-1.

Callaway’s season has gone in the opposite direction.

Callaway opened with back-to-back wins, but it has dropped three straight games to fall to 2-3, although none of those games were against region opponents.

LaGrange, meanwhile, is 1-3 overall, and 0-2 in Region 5-AAAA.

LaGrange will have to play the remainder of the season without senior pitcher McLain Skinner, who suffered a severe knee injury during a game on Saturday.

The injury will require surgery, and Skinner won’t play again this season.

Hannah Karcher moves up to become LaGrange’s number one pitcher.

It’s a bad break for Skinner and the team, but head coach Gabby Heath said “you just have to persevere.”
