LaGRANGE – On Wednesday morning, Lafayette Christian Academy held a ribbon-cutting and introduced its brand new sports complex to the public. The new addition is called the Lafayette Christian Academy Athletic Complex.

The ribbon-cutting took place near the football field and the new fieldhouse. There were about 830 students from the school, along with teachers and administrators in attendance.

The Lafayette Christian Academy Athletic Complex consists of a new parking lot, football field, track, bleachers, softball field, baseball field, practice football field, 17 acres of cross-country trails, and a well-put together fieldhouse — which is the center of the entire complex.

Headmaster John Cipolla calls this “Phase 1” of of the entire athletic complex and said there is more to be added.

The Lafayette Christian Academy Athletic Complex has already hosted a region cross-country meet that had 200 runners participating, and plans on hosting the middle school playoffs for football, as well as the GICAA football state championship game.

“People outside of the community will be coming to LaGrange to use (the facility) because in our league we need some schools that have big facilities like this to host certain events,” Cipolla said.

The school purchased the land about five years ago and started the civil engineering, planning, vision and raising funds about a year and a half ago.

“It’s so good to have all this on our campus because the P.E. classes, elementary classes, and discovery cottage kids all come up here to use the track, so it’s good that it’s all right here,” said Cipolla. “We own it. It’s ours. We don’t have to worry about going someplace else and wondering if something’s not working. It’s all just right here which is good.”

Lafayette Christian School held a ceremony Wednesday to open new sports complex with headmaster John Cipolla, center, students and faculty members in attendance.
