Bertha Cook Stargill

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Bertha Cook Stargill of LaGrange will be Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2:00PM at the First Baptist Church on The Square.  Elder John Poythress III will officiate.   Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Stargill, a native of Troup County, was born April 27, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Jim Cook and Alberta Ward Cook.  She attended school at East Depot High, Ethel W. Kight High School. and West Georgia Technical College.   She was employed at West Georgia Medical Center and in Home Health Care.  She was a member of True Holiness Church of God in Jesus’ Name where she served as president of the Junior and Senior Usher Board and as a choir member.

 

She leaves to cherish her memories, two loving and devoted sons: Pastor John (Brenda) Poythress III; Evangelist Guy (Ernestine) Poythress, all of LaGrange; eleven grandchildren: Shenita O’Neal, Carlos Poythress, John Poythress IV, Shamiko Gates, DeMario Poythress, Shanbreka Matias, Maurice Grissom, Javious Grissom, Gabriel Poythress, Shaketa Grissom, DeQuavious Grissom; three sisters: Mrs. Dora Cameron, Mrs. Katherine Moore, Mrs. Mable Berry, all of LaGrange; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Katherine Cook, Marietta, GA; Mrs. Bessie Cook, Chicago, IL; niece and caregiver, Mrs. Ora Marchman, LaGrange; seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Yolander Vanessa Poythress; three brothers: Grover Lee Cook, James Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Willie James Cook; one sister, Pauline (Robert) Robinson.

 

The family will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law: Pastors John and Brenda Poythress at 161 Wellington Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 until 6.
