LAGRANGE – It wasn’t much of a winter storm, but it could have been worse.

It was with that worst-case scenario in mind that schools across the area decided to cancel all of the sporting events scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

That means there’ll have to be some rescheduling done, and most of the makeup dates have been announced.

In wrestling, this will be the second time the Area 5-AAAA duals have been rescheduled.

The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday, but it was pushed up a day to Friday, but before the teams left their respective schools the decision was made not to hold it that day either.

The tournament is now scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m., and LaGrange and Troup will be among the six teams participating.

Troup and LaGrange are the top two seeds, and if they end up meeting in the championship round, they’ll both quality for the state duals this weekend in Macon.

On the basketball court, there were a bunch of games that had to be rescheduled.

The teams from Callaway and Troup both had two games postponed over the weekend, while LaGrange and LaGrange Academy had one apiece.

Troup’s teams will only make up one of the games it lost from the weekend.

Troup was supposed to play East Coweta on Saturday, but since those were non-region games, they won’t be made up.

Troup’s scheduled Region 5-AAAA games against Sandy Creek on Friday will be made up on Jan. 18.

Those games will be hosted by Troup.

Callaway will make up all of the games it lost from the weekend.

The Region 5-AA games against Lamar County will be played on Saturday in Barnesville, and Callaway will make up its games against Greenville on Jan. 19, and those games will also be on the road.

LaGrange Academy’s games against Dawson Street Christian School will be played on Saturday in Newnan.

LaGrange High, in an effort to beat the weather, moved its games against Cedartown from Friday to Thursday, and those games were played.

LaGrange’s games at Cartersville scheduled for Saturday were postponed, though, and no official makeup date has been set yet.
