Lady Cavaliers lose a tough one

FRANKLIN – It was a heart-breaking loss for the Callaway Lady Cavaliers.

Callaway had a one-point lead in the closing moments of Friday’s game, but Heard County’s Sage Kelley hit a 3-pointer to lift her team to a 43-41 home win in a Region 5-AA game.

The Lady Cavaliers fought back from a 22-10 halftime deficit to get into position to possibly come away with a big road win, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Haley Holliday had a big day for the Lady Cavaliers with 14 points, Chyna Cameron added 12 points, and KiKi Owens scored 10 points.

Callaway (3-11 overall), which is 3-3 in the region, has lost two close ones in a row after losing to Lamar County 45-42 on Thursday.

There was no suspense in the boys’ game, with Heard County rolling to a 53-34 victory.

Tamarcus Smith led the Cavaliers with 14 points, and Lazarrick Prather had nine points.

The Braves took control early, seizing a 12-8 lead after the first quarter, and they were ahead 34-12 at the half.

The Cavaliers (5-8 overall) fell to 2-4 in the region.

Callaway was coming off a 55-35 road win over Lamar County on Thursday.
