Grangers wrap up top seed

CARTERSVILLE – They’re number one.
The LaGrange Grangers beat the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes 64-47 on Thursday night to sew up the number one seed for next week’s Region 5-AAAA tournament.
LaGrange finished the regular season at 22-3 overall, and it went 11-1 in the region to take the top spot.
LaGrange won’t play again until the semifinals of the region tournament, and it will be the host team.
LaPerion Perry, part of LaGrange’s outstanding senior class, led the way with 25 points in Thursday’s game, and he made four 3-pointers.
Another one of the seniors, Bryan Fanning, scored 18 points, and he had 10 points in the third quarter.
The Grangers were ahead 14-11 after the first quarter, and they outscored the Purple Hurricanes 20-12 in the second period to take a 34-23 lead at the half.
Perry led the second-quarter charge with 11 points, and he had 16 points in the first half.
Fanning took over in the third period, and LaGrange outscored Cartersville 18-11 to seize a 52-34 lead.
LaGrange’s girls’ team finished the regular season with a 42-32 win over Cartersville.
LaGrange (14-10 overall) finished with an 8-4 region record, and it will find out its seeding for the region tournament following today’s games.
Senior post player Shania Woodard led the Lady Grangers in Thursday’s game with 14 points, and she had eight points in the third period.
Aryan Dozier added 12 points, and she had eight points in the fourth quarter as LaGrange put it away.
Chnaireia Strozier contributed 10 points, and she had six points in the fourth period and was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
