Gerald (Jerry) Gilbert

Gerald (Jerry) Gilbert, 83, passed away Saturday February 18, 2017 at West Georgia Hospice.
Jerry was born on November 21, 1933 in Berlin, New Hampshire to the late Edward and Cecile Gilbert. In addition to his parents he was predeceased in death by his wife Kate, brother Louis Gilbert, and sister Doris Fortier.
He is survived by his son Marlin (Susan) Gilbert and granddaughter Marci Gilbert of Thomaston, grandson Brett (Kelly) Gilbert of Atlanta, brother Bob (Helen) Gilbert of Richardsonville, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews including Ray Thomas and Reba Howard who assisted with his caregiving in his later years. He attended the Fourth Avenue / Callaway Park Church of God for many years, then Hilyer Baptist Church in more recent years.
Jerry was a retiree of the US Army where he served one tour in Korea and two in Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart while serving in Korea. After returning to LaGrange following his retirement from the military, he worked primarily for (and retired from) Darworth Company.
Funeral Services for Mr. Gilbert will be held Monday, February 20, 2017 at 3:00 pm in the Striffler-Hamby Chapel with burial to follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery. The Rev Mark Davenport and Cleve Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 3:00pm just prior to the service.
