The season came to a close for the Troup Tigers with a 56-31 loss to Blessed Trinity in the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament on Saturday.
The Tigers (10-18) hung in there in the first half.
Blessed Trinity led 17-9 after the first quarter, but Troup surged in the second period and cut its deficit to 25-21 heading to the half.
The Tigers couldn’t find the basket in the second half, though, as they were limited to five points in each of the final two quarters.
Despite finishing with a losing record, Troup made some strides this season and returning the state tournament for the first time in a handful of years.
Many of Troup’s top contributors will return next season, including leading scorer Jarrious Jefferson.
