Troup baseball players honored

LAGRANGE – The Troup Tigers, after going 2-2 in the Perfect Game High School Showdown, had seven players named to the all-tournament team.

Troup’s all-tournament players were Ryan Bliss, Trent Bailey, Colby Williams, Cooper Doughman, Jarred Helton, Ken Truitt and Cade Garner.

Bliss, Troup’s shortstop, had seven hits in 11 at-bats for a .636 batting average, and he had two doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored.

Bliss was tied for the top batting average in the tournament, and he had the best on-base percentage of .733.

Bailey, a catcher and designated hitter, was also one of the tournament’s top hitters with a .500 batting average, and he had seven RBIs.

Williams hit .308 with three RBIs, and Doughman hit .286 with two RBIs.

Helton, Truitt and Garner both made the all-tournament team as pitchers.

Helton made one start, and he was outstanding.

Helton pitched a seven-inning complete game, and he allowed just one earned run in a 9-2 victory over Lewisburg.

Garner, a freshman, made two relief appearances, and gave up two hits and one run in four innings.

Truitt made one start, and he allowed one run in three innings in an extra-inning loss to Sparkman.
