LAGRANGE – It was a winning day for the Troup Lady Tigers.
In a Region 5-AAAA soccer match at Callaway Stadium, Troup shrugged off an early 1-0 deficit to beat Cedartown 4-2.
The game was just a few minutes old when Cedartown scored to take the lead, but Troup rallied to score the next three goals.
After Cedartown got within one, Troup capped the scoring when Bryce Liechty scored on a free kick late in the game.
“I think we just started communicating (after the slow start),” Troup’s Breanna Gray said. “And then once they scored, we got a little agitated.”
Gray did her part by scoring a goal, and Liechty, Shelby Culver and Emily Schoonover also scored for Troup.
It was a much-needed win for Troup, which dropped its first three region games.
“We are getting more used to each other every practice, every game,” Gay said. “There’s definitely more chemistry.”
Schoonover said “we’re learning to communicate better, and we kind of know where we’re going to be on the field.”
In Monday’s game, Cedartown made things interesting with a second-half goal to get within one before Troup got a big insurance goal on Liecthy’s free kick with a little more than four minutes remaining.
LaGrange will be back at Callaway Stadium on Wednesday to play LaGrange in a region game.
