Lt. Col. (Ret) Herman Turner Hunt

Lt. Col. (Ret) Herman Turner Hunt, Jr., 95, of Alpharetta, GA, formerly of LaGrange, GA passed away on March 13, 2017 at the Tapestry House in Alpharetta, GA.
Mr. Hunt was born on October 19, 1921 in Jackson, TN, son of the late Herman Turner Hunt Sr. and Bertha Rauscher Hunt. He graduated from West Point Military Academy, and proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Following the war, he worked in Army Intelligence in Berlin, Germany and at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Paris, France. He also worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Herman retired from the Army after 23 years, having ascended to the rank of Lt. Colonel, and having received the Army Commendation Ribbon with cluster.
Upon retiring from the Army, Mr. Hunt received his Master’s Degree from American University, and subsequently taught as a Professor of French and German at LaGrange College for ten years before transitioning to a career in financial consulting.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce in 1985, the Association of the United States Army, the Military Order of the World Wars, the Retired Officers Association, the Highland Country Club, the Gridiron Club, and the Lions Club. In 1971, he and his wife, Betty, were among the founding members of LaGrange Academy.
He is survived by his son, Herman Turner (Trey) Hunt III, and two daughters, Susan E. (Beth) Hunt and H. Alison (Ali) Hunt. His wife of 47 years, Betty Maxine Folmar Hunt, passed away in 2005.
The celebration of life will be held graveside at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Shadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Allen Pruitt officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all contributions be made to the “Wounded Warriors Foundation”, the “United States Military Academy Library” or “Puppies behind Bars.”
