LAGRANGE – The LaGrange Lady Grangers finished off a perfect region schedule with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Cartersville on Tuesday.

LaGrange, which wrapped up the Region 5-AAAA championship with last week’s win over Chapel Hill, went 6-0 in region play.

The only goal of Tuesday’s game came on a penalty kick in the second half.

Maggie Asbell was fouled in the box, and she converted the penalty kick to give LaGrange a 1-0 lead, and the defense did the rest.

It was the ninth straight win for the Lady Grangers, who have guaranteed themselves home-field advantage for at least the first two rounds of the state tournament.

In Tuesday’s boys’ game, LaGrange had a chance to win the region championship, but it fell to Cartersville 3-0.

It was a 1-0 game at the half, and Cartersville scored two goals within five minutes of each other in the second half to cap the scoring.

The Grangers finished second in the region with a 5-1 record, and they’ll be at home for their state opener.

While LaGrange’s teams have completed region play, they still have a handful of games remaining in the regular season before the state tournament begins.
