Grangers wrap up second place

DOUGLASVILLE – The LaGrange Grangers wrapped up second place in Region 5-AAAA with a 5-3 road win over Chapel Hill on Thursday.

LaGrange closed with a 9-3 region record, and it finished one game behind Troup.

LaGrange, by virtue of its second-place finish, will host a state-playoff  series next week.

In Thursday’s game, LaGrange made the most of its seven hits.

Ben Anderson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases.

David Sweat had a hit, a walk, and two runs scored, and he also stole two bases.

Willis Kemp had a hit and two RBIs, and Champ Willis had a hit and did a stellar job defensively from his catcher position.

Matt Anderson and Cole Freeman each had a hit, and Hunter Plant and Charles Crawford each had an RBI.

Matt Anderson started and went two innings, and John Morgan and Jacob Vinson both did a stellar job in relief.

Morgan threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings and gave up three hits.

Vinson finished things off with a 1 2/3 shutout innings to get the save.
