LAGRANGE – The season came to a close for the LaGrange Academy baseball team, which was swept by First Presbyterian in the opening round of the GISA Class AA state tournament on Saturday.

The Warriors trailed 6-0 in the first inning of Game 1, and they ended up losing 10-0.

It was a similar story in Game 2, with First Presbyterian surging to a 5-0 lead through one inning on the way to a 10-0 victory.

Mason Brown and Matthew Morgan were the starting pitchers in both games for the Warriors, and coach Brandon Lybrand said they both did well.

Riley Hess pitched in relief in both games “and did a great job” according to Lybrand.

Lybrand said outfielder Ujwal Modi did a nice job defensively in Game 1, and Morgan and Nick Keating had hits in the second game

“I’m really proud of how hard the boys played and never gave up,” Lybrand said. “We just didn’t have a productive offensive day.”

Lybrand said the Warriors left the bases loaded twice in the second game.

“We just couldn’t get the timely hits,” Lybrand said.
