WEST POINT- Beauty comes in all forms and structures and Beauty Mark’D personifies that to the utmost.

Beauty Mark’D is an independent beauty, cosmetic and personal care business located at 721 Third Avenue in West Point that opened Sept. 26.

Tomekia Day, the owner of Beauty Mark’D, and Deidra Frederick, who works closely with Day to run the daily operation, form a tag-team that’s slowly aiming to make their presence known in West Point.

“She has been working on lashes for over 10 years now and from that, people started requesting her services and Beauty Mark’D was birthed by a vision given to her by God,” said Frederick.

Day, who also has been running a tax preparation business for seven years, attended Industrial Makeup Academy in Atlanta for a two-month, eight-week course to become a certified make-up artist.

“It was really in-depth,” Day said. “I went in with a little bit of knowledge and I came out learning a plethora of information like different ways to look at a client, how to gage and determine what’s best for their face shape, her eye shape, the brows, the lipstick, details on how to do the lipstick. It was a lot of stuff I learned.”

Beauty Mark’D provides everything from full-face makeup applications, strip and individual lashes, brow shaping, eye shadowing, blush, contour and highlights.

As far as the brand names Beauty Mark’D carries, they have a wide variety of them.

“The make-up eye carriers and beauty products we carry are Mary Kay, MAC, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Make Up Forever, Avon, and a lot of others,” Day said. “We also have jewelry, sell dresses and do customized-made t-shirts as well that families like to have done for things like birthdays and events.”

“The work atmosphere is very relaxing,” Frederick said. “We play gospel music here throughout the day so that the environment is a spiritual atmosphere, so your welcome to come here and drop your problems in the chair and get a massage. We want to make sure your spiritually-connected when you get here and beautifully-connected when you leave here.”

“What I enjoy the most is doing the make-up,” Day said. “I do like the beautification process. Every step of it to the cleansing of the blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and doing facials. I talk to the customers and educate them on what they need if they’re oily or dry and what products they need to use. I give them at-home tips they can use and just applying the make-up and the color blend. I like color matching and using different colors.”

Day said one of her goals moving forward is to attract more diversity into her beauty store, where females of all race and backgrounds will stop by.

“What makes us stand out is my professional experience as a make-up artist and my knowledge,” Day said. “I have high-quality products and the individuality of each client is what’s important. I like to listen to the client’s needs and ask them things like, ‘How do you like your brows done?’ instead of them just sitting down and doing them. So finding out what my clients want done and how they want it done is all about providing good customer service.”
