George E. Dorman

George E Dorman, 75, passed away on May 25, 2017, in Greer, SC.
George was born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Paul M. and Lillie Mae Dorman.
He graduated from Fairforest High School in 1960, where he was an accomplished athlete in both basketball and football. He graduated from Clemson University in 1964 with a degree in Engineering. While home from college, he met his wife Brenda Garrett, and they were married Nov. 26, 1964 in Fairforest.
George had many fond memories of his years at Clemson, including meeting with Frank Howard in his office, when “Howard’s Rock” was just a mere doorstop. After college, he served in the US Army, where he held the rank of Captain. After his service in the Army, he was employed by Milliken and Co, and in 1972 was transferred to LaGrange GA where he raised his family and continued his career with Milliken until his retirement.
George was a very creative man with a great sense of humor that was evident in his many stories and inventions. Not only was he a great storyteller, but he also enjoyed painting with watercolors, cooking and gardening. He was an avid golfer with a love for football, especially his beloved Clemson Tigers.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Reynolds (Rick) of Ocala FL, and Jill Obenchain (John) of Logansport IN; grandson, Brian Reynolds (Katherine) of Ocala FL; brother, Paul Dorman (Lydia) of Greer SC; sister, Dianne Williamson (Dan) of Greer SC; sister-in-law, Shelba Dorman of Daniel Island SC; nephew, Matt Dorman (Mimi) of Charleston SC; nieces, Candace Stuede (Chris) of Charlotte NC, Erin Whittle (Allen) of Roanoke VA, and Kelly Williamson of Charlotte NC.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Garrett Dorman and his brother, Benjamin Harvey Dorman.
A memorial service is being planned for July 15, 2017, in Fairforest.
