HOGANSVILLE – For local soccer fans, Callaway High will be the place to be for the next six weeks.

For the third consecutive year, a seven-on-seven soccer league is being hosted by Callaway High, and the games will be played on Tuesdays through July 25.

There won’t be any games on July 4, but there will be games played every other Tuesday, leading up to the tournament on July 25 when a champion will be crowned.

The league got under way this week, and as will be the case throughout the summer, there were 10 total games played.

The league games are 40 minutes long with two 20-minute halves, whereas high-school games during the spring are 90 minutes.

Also, instead of 11 players per side as is the case during the spring, each team has seven players on the field during the summer-league games

Another noteworthy difference is the size of the field.

Callaway’s soccer field is divided in half for the league games, so the players don’t have to cover nearly as much ground. It’s a faster-paced game, and goals are much more prevalent than they are during the spring.

Five schools will have teams competing in the league, including Callaway, LaGrange, Troup and Lafayette Christian.

This year for the first time, the Heritage School is participating in the league.

Callaway, LaGrange and Troup each has a girls’ and a boys’ team participating.

There is no charge for admission, and a concession stand will be set up each night.
