LAGRANGE – The Troup National all-stars moved within one victory of a district championship with Monday’s 9-3 win over Manchester at the Harris Baseball Complex.

Troup improved to 3-0 in the Dixie Youth Baseball 11-12-year-old district tournament, and it will play for the title on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against either Manchester or Taylor County.

In Monday’s game, Troup National did all of its damage early with nine runs in the first two innings

That was plenty of support for pitchers Colton Esposito and Trevor Booton.

Esposito started and pitched 3 1/3 innings, and Booton threw the final 2 2/3 innings.

At the plate, Booton hit a home run for the third consecutive game, and that was part of a six-run second inning.

Booton also had a base hit in the first inning, and he finished with two hits.

Esposito, who hit home runs in the first two tournament games, had a double in the first inning, and he reached on an error in the second inning.

Blake Sheppard had two hits for Troup National, including a double in the first inning, Lane Christie had a double in the second inning, and Bryson Monteith and Rocky Pemberton each had a hit.

If Troup National wins the district title, it will advance to the state tournament in July.

The state-tournament winner will qualify for the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series  that will be played in Oxford, Ala. in August.
