Erma Jean (Jeanie) Smith, 83, went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2017, at West Georgia Hospice, surrounded by loving family. Mrs. Smith was born October 26, 1933, in Rock Mills, Alabama to the late Leonard Farr and Mary Nell Yarbrough Thompson. She retired from Kleentex Industries as a sewing operator and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Erma Jean (Jeanie) was a wonderful and loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved the Lord and always put others’ needs before her own.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Neil Smith; child, Mary Frances Smith; granddaughter, Tiffany Cardwell; great-grandson, Zachary McCall Wilson, and loving stepfather, Harold L. Thompson.
Survivors include her children, Debbie and Mac Yearta, Ricky and Patricia Smith; brother, Kline and Evelyn Farr; sister, Carolyn and William Meadows; grandchildren, Kristy and Mark Whitley, Scott Wilson, Brandi Smith and Michelle Cardwell; great-grandchildren, Haylee and Buck Ussery, Cam Cobb, Mallory Wilson, Sydney Wilson, Landon, Wilson, Courtney Benefield, Carly Smith, Tyler Smith, Logan Lanier and Mason Lanier; two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Higgins LaGrange Chapel with the Reverend Stanley Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be receiving friends at the home of her granddaughter, 107 Vernon Ferry Road, LaGrange, GA. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to West Georgia Hospice in memory of Erma Jean Smith.
