Dewey Chester (Red) Henderson

Mr. Dewey Chester (Red) Henderson, age 87, of 114 Lee Road 762 of Opelika, Alabama went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Cleburne County, Alabama on Sept. 3, 1929, the son of the late J.W. and Lillie Mae Henderson.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in LaGrange, and worked for Edwards and McGehee in Auburn, Alabama for twenty six and a half years. I addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Hyde and three brothers in law, Charlie Hyde, Wayne Holland and Herbert Haney.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Whitley Henderson; two daughters, Ann and Ralph Bess of Beaugard, Alabama and Lynn and Robert Musselwhite of Beaugard, Alabama; thee sons, Gene Henderson of Opelika, Alabama, James Henderson and Joanna of Opelika, Alabama and Kenneth Henderson and Regina of Opelika, Alabama; 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; sister, Frances Holland of LaGrange; brother in law and sister in law, Billy and Dorothy Thompson of Bowdon, Georgia; brother in law, Frank Whitley of West Point. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Kennedy and the Rev. Orman Harcrow officiating. Music will be provided by Ethan Holloway and Nathan Holloway.
Remains will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. until service hour. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Mr. Henderson’s remains will be taken to his home where the family will receive friends on Friday evening and all day on Saturday: 114 Lee Road 762, Opelika, Alabama.
