LAGRANGE – They’re hoping to celebrate another championship.
The Troup National 11-12-year-old all-star team has already won two titles this summer.
After winning the district championship at the Harris Baseball Complex, Troup National traveled to Crawford County and won the state title.
Now, Troup National will look to bring home the big prize.
Troup National will represent Georgia in the Dixie Youth Baseball
World Series that gets under way on Saturday in Oxford, Ala.
There are 12 teams in the tournament, and a winner will be crowned on Thursday.
Troup National, or team Georgia as it will be known in the World Series, will participate in the opening ceremony today at 8:30 p.m.
Also, Georgia’s players will compete in a skills competition at 3 p.m.
In the district and state tournaments, Troup National had a combined 10-1 record.
Troup National’s lone loss came to Seminole County, and the team avenged that setback in the state-championship game.
The World Series includes 11 state champions, as well as the host team from Oxford.
Georgia’s World Series opener will be against Louisiana on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
If Georgia wins, it will play again at 8 p.m. on Sunday. If Georgia loses its tournament opener, it will play at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination game.
