It is hard to miss the paper lanterns hanging on the lamp posts in downtown LaGrange. They are there for next weekend’s LaGrange International Friendship Exchange annual international festival.
With the upcoming festival is a unique opportunity to experience different cultures from around the world in one day. The booths run by locals in Troup County also have ties to a given country.
Over Twenty countries will be represented, and we could not be more excited.
It is often said that traveling around the world expands minds, and while this is nice, it is also expensive. This free event, while not the same experience as going to another country, shows what that nation’s culture is like.
Any kind of exposure to another culture, no matter how small, is always a good thing.
Some participants will wear traditional clothing from their country. It is a fun an informational way to learn more about a nation’s culture.
Additionally, many booths will provide food from their countries. There is no a better way to experience another country than trying what locals eat. Between different flavors and exotic tastes, international food is fun to try.
There will also be games and face painting for children, so the event includes fun for the whole family.
This celebration not only is entertaining for everyone, but also a great way to expand minds and bring the community together. We hope to see you there.
