Sager A. Underwood

Mr. Sager A. Underwood, 97, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Twin Fountains Home.

Mr. Underwood was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Danville, Virginia, son of the late Cordis and Christine Dalton Underwood.

A veteran of service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War Two, he lived in LaGrange before making his home in Hogansville in 1976 and owned and operated Underwood Grocery on Greenville Rd. for many years.  He was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, Glenda and Arnold Yancey of LaGrange; son and daughter in-law, Howard and Dorothy Underwood of Phenix City, AL; sister, Ruby Walker of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Michael Underwood and his wife Geri, Chris Underwood and Cathy Underwood, Terry Callahan and her husband Neal, Candy Toney and her husband Darren; a special friend, Barbara Watkins; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Underwood, Alex Whitfield and her husband David, Michael Underwood, Samantha Underwood, Mary Katherine Toney, Candace Callahan, Joe Callahan, Sara Grace Callahan.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Wingett Underwood.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Johnson will officiate, and interment will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday.
