LAGRANGE – Is this their day?

The Lafayette Christian School Cougars will go on the road today looking for their first win of the season after four consecutive losses.

Lafayette Christian will be in Williamson to play CrossPointe Christian Academy, which is 3-0.

Lafayette Christian is coming off a 60-34 loss to Crisp Academy, although there were some bright spots, particularly on offense.

With junior quarterback Landon Whitley coming through with another strong performance, the Cougars had more than 300 yards of offense, and they found the end zone five times.

Now after three straight home games, Lafayette Christian will be on the road for the first time since its season opener against Solid Rock Academy.

“Maybe being away from home will take a little bit of the pressure off and we can build off what we have,” Lafayette Christian coach Nate Shaw said.

Whitley has been making plays for the Cougars all season.

In last week’s game, Whitley completed 6-of-12 passes for 134 yards with two touchdowns, and he ran for 174 yards on 22 carries with two more scores.

“He really balled out,” Shaw said.

A number of Lafayette Christian’s top contributors are freshmen, including Cason Firth and Nathan Hudson, who each had touchdown catches last week.

Another freshman, Ben Dixon, ran the ball eight times for 41 yards, and freshman Nathan Karvelas had two catches for 28 yards.

“Our freshmen are beginning to contribute,” Shaw said. “And we’ve got some sophomore offensive linemen who don’t get a lot of pub, but they’ve been effective.”

While Lafayette Christian is looking for its first win, the Callaway Cavaliers are hoping to stay unbeaten with a road win over Upson-Lee today.

Callaway improved to 3-0 with last week’s 42-13 win over Columbus, while Upson-Lee is 2-1.

LaGrange (0-4) and Troup (4-0) are both off this week as they prepare for the start of Region 5-AAAA play.

LaGrange hosts Central-Carroll next week, while Troup is on the road against Chapel Hill.
