The Callaway Lady Cavaliers hung tough with a strong Heard County softball team on Thursday before falling 7-3 in a Region 5-AA game.

It was a one-run game before Heard County scored three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.

It was a marked turnaround from the first meeting between the two teams, with Heard County winning 8-0.

“I’m proud of them. I’m proud of the way we played,” said Callaway head coach Ashley Summerlin. “We played good defense for the most part, and we hit the ball pretty good.”

Jasmine Dukes and Skylar Rice both had RBI hits for Callaway, and Oeisha Jenkins had sacrifice fly to score Kelly Carlisle.

Jenkins also did a solid job on the mound in pitching the complete game.

“We’re not up for moral victories, but you walk away knowing if we fix up the little things, we can beat ‘em.”

Also on Thursday, LaGrange was at Chapel Hill for a first-place showdown in Region 5-AAAA.

Chapel Hill exploded for nine runs in the second inning on the way to a 17-5 victory.

LaGrange’s Katleynn Mobley had a home run, and she drove in two runs.

Shaq Sutton, Hannah Karcher, Jacee Marable, Kadaysha Griffin and Madison Dennis each had hits for LaGrange.

At Troup, it was a tough day for the home team, with Central-Carroll capturing a 16-0 victory in a Region 5-AAAA game.

Central-Carroll and Chapel Hill are now tied for first place in the region.

LaGrange is one game behind.
