BARNESVILLE – The Callaway Lady Cavaliers fell to Heard County 7-2 on Friday in the Region 5-AA tournament.
Callaway will play Temple at 11 a.m. today, with the winner earning the number three seed for the state tournament, while the loser will be the fourth seed.
In Friday’s game, it was competitive most of the way.
Heard County was clinging to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when it scored four runs to go up by four.
“I thought we pitched and played defense pretty decent,” Callaway head coach Ashley Summerlin said. “We didn’t hit it as well as I’d like, but their pitcher did a good job of hitting spots, especially when she had to.”
Oeisha Jenkins started for Callaway and pitched 6 1/3 innings, and Skylar Rice got the final two outs.
Leijorey Sanders and Lindsay Cofield each had two hits.
