It will be a while before the final numbers are in on how much the Junior Service League’s 43rd annual Attic Sale earned, but judging by the line that stretched outside Callaway Auditorium on Saturday morning, the group will be able to do a lot of good with the funds raised by the event.

“It really helps fund the league, so that we are able to provide for others with charity events and receive donations so that we can fund projects around town just to serve the community,” JSL Member Jennifer Wallace said. “We provide grants and scholarships. This helps the league survive in order to do that.”

The Junior Service League of LaGrange has helped fund projects for groups throughout the county including the Boys and Girls Club, the Boy Scouts’ Camp Cow Pie, the LaGrange Memorial Library, Camp Dogwood and many more.

“Last year we helped West Georgia Star,” JSL member Ashley Mayfield said. “They were a project proposal. (There are) mini grants. People apply for those in the fall and the spring. The deadline for fall is usually Oct. 1 and March 1 is for the Spring. Anybody can apply for a mini-grant. We’ve helped LSPA, Harmony House, Emmaus, the fourth of July parade — we did put that on.”

Members of the group were excited to get to be a part of the event and spend time fundraising for the community together too by selling everything from dressers to luggage to toys.

“Getting together as a whole as a league (is the best part),” JSL member Katie Henderson said.

Many members of the community look forward to the annual event as well, to the degree that for some it has become a tradition.

“We come here every year,” Faye Harris said. “I started coming with my oldest daughter and this is my youngest daughter here (at the sale with me this year).”
