GBI investigates officer involved shooting in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY — The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred Monday around 3:30 a.m.
According to a press release by GBI, preliminary information provided by Carroll County authorities indicate that at approximately 3:20 a.m. during routine patrol, a Carroll County deputy approached a suspicious individual in a vehicle at a Dollar General parking lot located at 4755 E Highway 166, Carrollton, GA 30116.
During the encounter, the deputy fired his service weapon multiple times at a male subject, striking him, according to GBI. The male subject was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
That individual was taken into custody by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The GBI said the investigation continues to determine what occurred.
When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Carroll County District Attorney’s Office for review.
