Council considers rezoning for expansion

On Tuesday, the LaGrange City Council considered a rezoning request for several properties to allow for the expansion of a local business.

According to the request, Jackson Heating & Air wishes to use recently purchased residential property at 109 Webster Street to create an alternate entry to the business on a more gradual slope than the current entrance. The driveway would be opposite the entrance to Kimble’s Food by Design.

City staff does not believe the entryway would have a negative impact on traffic in the area. However, the zoning board did recommend a condition of a 10-foot vegetative buffer between the business drive and neighboring private residences.

“They wanted to protect this residence from commercial trucks driving through and traffic coming in next to them,” City Planner Leigh Threadgill said. “They are requiring a 10 foot buffer on that line.”

The zoning of 103 and 105 West Hillside Drive is also under consideration for rezoning from residential to commercial for Jackson Heating & Air. A drive would not be allowed on Hillside Drive due to the residential nature of the street.

The LaGrange City Council plans to hold a hearing on the rezoning of the three properties on Nov. 14.
