Jacquelyn Trammell Dodd passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at her home.
Jackie was born on Sept. 5,1940, in LaFayette, Alabama, the daughter of the late Theo and Mattie Ruth Trammell.
She was a graduate of Auburn University and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia.
She was trained and certified in the teaching method of Maria Montessori.
Jackie taught English at LaGrange High School in the early 1960s and at Northside High School in Atlanta.
During this time, she and her twin sister, Rosalyn, became interested in the Montessori teaching method and made the decision to train and become Montessori certified. They were immediately hired by a newly established Montessori school in Huntsville, Alabama, where they taught for several years.
In 1971, Jackie moved back to LaGrange to marry her beloved husband, Dr. James Dodd. After the birth of their son, Trammell, in 1973, Jackie decided that LaGrange needed a Montessori School, and in 1976 she started the First Presbyterian Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten. She served as director there for 27 years and was lovingly known as “Miss Jackie” to her young students.
After her retirement in 2003, Jackie became involved with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and worked tirelessly with teenagers in that program.
Jackie was a member of Dallas-Dodd Presbyterian Church where her husband, Dr. Jim Dodd, served as pastor for over 40 years.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Dr. James Lee Dodd, and by her twin sister, Rosalyn Trammell Ploch, of Orlando, Florida.
She is survived by her son, Harrod Trammell Dodd of LaGrange and stepchildren, Susan Dodd Sehm and David Dodd of Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Other survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law; Beverley and Ed MaDan, Jenny and Bob Copeland, and Nancy Hargett all of LaGrange, as well as nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family is forever grateful to Mrs. Teresa Hollis, who has been a loving caretaker and faithful friend to Jackie during her failing health.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the rev. Meg Clark Jackson officiating.
