Eddie B. Bassett Jr.

Mr. Eddie B. Bassett Jr., 74, of LaGrange, GA, formerly of Juniper, GA, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Basset was born in Juniper, GA, son of the late Eddie B. Bassett, Sr. and Agnes Lee Bassett.
He was a graduate of Talbot County High School and began his college career at West Georgia College and then transferred to the University of Georgia where he earned his pharmacy degree. Mr. Bassett did his internship at Lee Drug in Columbus, GA and then worked one year in Hogansville, GA before returning home to Talbotton in 1968 where he owned Bassett’s Pharmacy until his retirement in 2006. He served as mayor of Talbotton and later as County Commissioner for many years.
Mr. Bassett was a member of Edgewood Church of Christ in Columbus, GA for many years before moving to LaGrange, GA where he was a member of Broad Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Carroll Bassett; two children and their spouses, LeTisha and Sykes Smith of LaGrange, GA and Baylor and Emily Bassett of Carrollton, GA. He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Henry Smith and Mary Frances Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Ouida and Chuck Borders; brother and sister-in-law, John and M’Lou Lee; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Broad Street Church of Christ, 408 Broad Street, LaGrange, GA 30240.
