Steve Tramell is running for Mayor of West Point and owns a business in the city named SewingMachine.com. He believes it is important for a mayor to understand what it takes to successfully run a business. Over the last 10 years, Tramell has revitalized buildings in downtown West Point.

Tramell said those buildings now house 12 new businesses, apartments, a girls’ dormitory, and provide more than 50 jobs and house more than 70 people in downtown. He said he is working daily to bring more new businesses and jobs to the West Point community.

Tramell has served as a city councilman for the last four years and as Mayor Pro-Tem for the last year and a half. He said he cannot imagine attempting the job of mayor without having served on the council first.

He also serves on the Troup Council on Aging, Troup County Strategic Planning Commission, Greater Valley Governmental Affairs Committee, Mainstreet Better Hometown Community Program, West Point Development Authority, West Point Housing Authority and many other programs throughout the city.

He said his first goal as mayor is continued growth.

He said West Point has new stores, restaurants, a college and more new businesses coming. As mayor, he said he will work tirelessly to ensure this growth continues.

He said another goal is education. Tramell believes early childhood education is vital to the success of our children and said we need programs that start at early age and that include training for parents to help ensure their child success.

He also said West Point needs housing — new subdivisions, apartment complexes, mixed used developments.

Tramell said he has been working with the Fuller Center for Housing to help those in need of affordable housing in West Point.

He said he will continue to encourage these activities in the West Point community.
