End of the local football season

Last night, Troup High School faced off against Cartersville High School. You can read more about that game on page 1B, but we wanted to take a moment here to congratulate all our local teams on the hard work that went into this season.

Troup High School and Callaway High School both had stellar football seasons this school year. The regular football season may have wrapped up this weekend, but these two schools will make playoff appearances. We applaud them and all local teams for the hard work they put in through the countless hours of practice every week.

For those teams who may not have a chance at the playoffs, you still did well. Your efforts were not wasted.

The literal sweat, blood and tears that these high school students put toward this season is impressive. Not just the football players either.

The cheerleaders, marching band members, dance teams, fans, coaches and everyone else who supported our local teams through the season should be commended. It is sometimes hard to remember that the players, cheerleaders, dance teams and band members are still students. Taking the time outside of their school work and regular lives is impressive all around. It’s not easy to keep up with a demanding schedule while also trying to balance school and other social activities.

Whether you participated on the field or cheered for the members of these teams on the side lines, well done. You never realize how much a sports season takes up your time until it’s over and you don’t know what to do with free afternoons and weekends.

Let’s hope everyone enjoyed this last weekend, because for Callaway and Troup, there is more to be done. We wish them good luck.
