It’s game time for LaGrange Academy.
The school’s girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will open a new season today with home games against Griffin Christian, with tip-of set for 6 p.m.
LaGrange Academy girls’ coach Mel Major is tasked with replacing some key players from last season’s team, including leading scorer Alexus Scott.
Scott, along with three other seniors, helped lead the Lady Warriors to the GISA state tournament.
“We lost all our scoring last year,” Major said. “So, we’ll have to have some girls step up scoring. That’ll come with time.”
An eighth-grader, Kelsey Cotton, led the Lady Warriors in scoring in a scrimmage game last week.
Another eighth-grader, Sydney Edelson, will get significant playing time.
There are a handful of veterans, including Ashlee Mains, Felicity Liechty, Ruthie Kelsey and Megan Allen.
“Those are the main ones from last year, and I’m expecting a lot from those girls,” Major said.
LaGrange Academy’s boys’ team will make its debut under head coach Will Long, who has taken over for Britt Gaylor.
The Warriors’ leading scorer from last season, Lincoln Anderson, is now at LaGrange College.
Anderson could be counted on for at least 20 points in every game.
“It’s got to be a group effort, and I think they’re ready for the challenge,” Long said. “We’re doing a good job in practice.”
