Christmas coming in LaGrange

Although no snowflakes have touched the ground in LaGrange, it is looking like Christmas in downtown.
With all of the Christmas events that have happened this week and are continuing this weekend, it’s easy to forget it’s still November.
LaGrange and Hogansville held their sip and shop events two weekends ago where business owners and community members mingled and bought Christmas presents.
LaGrange College held its Christmas on the Hill Event Tuesday night. Community members were welcome to take photos with Santa, meet reindeer and watch the Christmas tree get lit by college president Dan McAlexander. There was even a hill of snow for children to play in and throw snowballs at each other.
This afternoon, there’s a mingle with Kringle event at the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce’s plaza where children can meet Santa Claus and other costumed characters.
At 6 p.m. tonight is the 41st annual Christmas parade. Even if it rains, the parade will continue.
Christmas still happens even when the things take a turn.
By Friday, the Downtown Development Authority will have the elf from Elf on the Shelf running around downtown. Those who meet the elf can take a selfie with it and use the hashtag #selfiewithelfie and post it on Downtown LaGrange’s Facebook page to be entered in weekly drawings for a $50 certificate for downtown. This promotes downtown and brings in the fun of Christmas simultaneously.
And of course, children will be excited that Santa is coming to Lafayette Square Saturday at 1 p.m. There will be mini-carriage rides available for them too.
While we’re less than a month away from Christmas, the community is already getting into the holiday spirit. It’s not the decorations or the cheerful music playing at these events, but the members of the community bringing their spirit.
It shows the closeness of the community is when we come together for these holiday events.
We’re glad the Christmas spirit is being displayed with these events.
