James Emmett Askew

James Emmett Askew died peacefully at his home in Hogansville on Dec. 7, 2017, at the age of 65.

Emmett was born on Aug. 16, 1952, was a 1971 graduate of Hogansville High School and graduated from LaGrange College in 1980. He worked in the vending industry as a salesman and eventually as district manager, and upon retirement, ran a successful real estate agency in his home town of Hogansville. He was an accomplished golfer and was inducted into the Hogansville Sports Hall of Fame for golf. Emmett took great pride in providing for his family and was a loving, generous man who will be dearly missed by his many friends and family.

Emmett is survived by his son, Cameron Emerson (Ashley) Askew of Helena, AL; daughter, Erin Askew (Kevin) Hill of Nicholls, GA; and granddaughter, Lillian Grace Hill of Nicholls. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Benjamin Askew and Elizabeth Ingram Askew; and sister Emily Anne Askew.

A service to celebrate Emmett’s life will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, at the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville.  The Rev. Kenneth Kulp will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., Sunday at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.
