Johnson: Wonderful coffee and conversations with God

I went hunting in Kentucky, but really what I did was sit in a tree in 22 degree weather for several days.
But you know, the most wonderful coffee ever drunk is when sitting in a tree stand 20 feet off the ground at 22 degrees with a 5 mph wind in your face. That brings a new level of wonderful to coffee.
I guess my standards are way too high because for the last five years the only time I pull the trigger is at the practice range. Oh yes, I have seen some bucks but have been holding out for that “super” buck. I have read a lot of good books while sitting in the stands over the years.
My friend, Bill Katter, used to tell me how if the deer was walking away from his truck or thought it was a long drag he’d let the buck go to grow another year. Maybe I just like the outdoors and nature, it is sure not the deer I bring home. I think next year I will ride horses and forget the coffee at 22 degrees.
The Good Lord and I have some great talks while I am in his big church all by myself.
