Video board would enhance stadium experience

Callaway Stadium is likely to get a new video board soon, and it’s going to make a significant difference in how games and events are viewed.

The current scoreboard at the stadium is dated and according to Troup Parks and Recreation Director Cajen Rhodes, it’s time for it to be replaced. Everything sounds like it’s working at this point, but if anything were to break it’d be costly to replace, and it might also be difficult to find the replacement parts. The new board will cost $400,000 altogether, and that funding is being sought from area organizations. The Troup County School System will vote today about whether or not to give $50,000 toward the purchase.

Other local organizations are also being asked to help out, and it sounds like things are progressing for the scoreboard to be up in 2018.

The new board — which will be a large video screen the size of the current scoreboard — will remove the need for replacement lights. The scoreboard will easily be set up for the different schools that play there and advertising messages can play on the video screen during events. Of course, the board won’t just be used for sporting events. It’ll also be utilized at graduations and for community events.

Rhodes hinted at movie nights at the stadium and other ways it could be used. We like the sound of that. Not everybody is into sports, so using the new video board as a way to bring the community together is a great idea.
