Anyone dreaming of a white Christmas will have to wait for next year, but there is some good news in the forecast. The weather is likely to be clear and sunny in LaGrange and Troup County on Christmas Day.
Weather could impact the weekend though, especially for those traveling to go see loved ones for the holidays.
Sid King, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, said there’s a 90 percent chance of rain in LaGrange on Saturday.
“The next cold front is approaching northwest Georgia, and it will enter the area late Friday night,” King said. “And then move through the area on Saturday, and that is going to increase rain chances ahead of the front.
LaGrange is looking at about 90 percent rain chances and the heaviest rain looks like it’ll be in the late morning and into the afternoon, until about 6 or 7 o’ clock, and then those chances will decrease into the evening and into Sunday morning.”
King said there will be periods of heavy rain Saturday, but the chance of thunder is minimal.
Strong winds could be ahead of the system, with gusts as high as 20-25 miles per hour, King said. LaGrange and Troup County is expected to receive about an inch of rain on Saturday.
“After this system passes, the chances of rain clear out early in the day Sunday and then it will be clear. Sunny and fair skies are expected on Monday for Christmas,” King said.
Temperatures on Christmas are expected to be right around 32 degrees in the morning with a high of around 50 degrees.
