the Panthers, although head coach Mark Veal felt the effort could have been better.
“We’re not good enough, or talented enough to just show up and expect to win,” Veal said. “We’ve got to play.”
The Grangers won’t have to wait long to get a chance to improve on Tuesday’s performance.
LaGrange closes the regular season today against Central-Carroll, and it will then wait to find out where it will be seeded for the region tournament.
If LaGrange wins today, it will either be seeded third or fourth for the region tournament.
“We’re glad senior night’s over with,” Veal said. “We’ll play tomorrow, and hopefully it’ll go better.”
Daz Williams and Bo Russell, two of the seniors who were recognized before the game, combined for 32 of LaGrange’s points.
Williams scored 17 points, with seven of those points coming in the fourth quarter.
Russell added 15 points, and Earley Sanders did some nice work inside and scored eight points.
Markell Clonts led Chapel Hill with 21 points, and Tre Rea added 10 points.
After the Panthers missed on a chance to take the lead late in the game, Williams made a pair of free throw to put the Grangers up by three.
Chapel Hill then missed a 3-pointer that would have forced overtime, and LaGrange walked away victorious.
