Grangers, Tigers fall short in region tourney

COLLEGE PARK – The LaGrange Grangers and Troup Tigers both fell short in the Region 5-AAAA semifinals on Friday, and they’ll meet today in the third-place game.
LaGrange lost to second-seeded Cartersville 69-55, and Troup fell to top-seeded Sandy Creek 76-47.
Bo Russell led LaGrange with 21 points, Daz Williams scored 16 points, and Vondez Taylor contributed 11 points.
For Troup, King Mwikuta led the way with 10 points, and Ja’Rell Smith scored nine points.
The region tournament concludes today with four games at LaGrange High.
At 3 p.m., the Troup and Central-Carroll girls’ teams will meet in the third-place game.
At 4:30 p.m., it’ll be Troup and LaGrange playing for the third time this season.
The teams split their two regular-season games.
At 6 p.m., LaGrange and Sandy Creek will play for the Region 5-AAAA girls’ championship, and the tournament concludes with Cartersville and Sandy Creek playing for the boys’ title.
Admission for today’s games is eight dollars.
