Looking ahead to a busy spring, summer

This past weekend we printed our Outdoor Guide, a list of upcoming activities for the spring and summer in LaGrange.
The guide included information on the campgrounds and beaches at West Point Lake, information on programs from the Troup County Parks and Recreation Department and a list of upcoming fishing tournaments in our area.
It might feel a little early to talk about the spring and summer months, but then again, today is the last day of February. Many of these sites can fill up with visitors. The weather outside has warmed up considerably over the last few weeks, and many are taking advantage of it.
The Model Mile of The Thread has had an increase in activity — at least from what we’ve seen — and we’re sure other parks have been utilized as well. In today’s paper we wrote about a new park, called Southbend, that will be opening near Wild Leap Brew Co. by the summer. The park will include a dog park, skate plaza, a pavilion and playground. There are already a lot of things to do in LaGrange during the summer and the latest park will only add to it. In the weeks ahead, we’ll have more on the new park, but it sounds like it’ll be a great spot for families to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
Between the lake, events at Sweetland Amphitheatre, The Thread and other nearby amenities, there’s plenty to look forward to this summer. Everyone enjoys a trip to the beach or a weekend in the mountains, but we hope when you plan your summer that you’ll leave plenty of time to get outside and enjoy LaGrange too.
