Children watched with rapt attention as Linda Copeland read her book, “Bitsy’s Happy Bouquet” at Hills & Dales Estate on Saturday.
About 21 children attended the event, which in addition to the story, offered children the opportunity to plant their own marigolds and moonflowers in potting soil.
“I wrote the book because I love flowers,” Copeland said. “I think they are the most amazing creation. There is something beautiful about them, and I want little ones to think about them and to show people that they care about [are] given flowers. That is what the book is all about.”
The children were also able to enjoy a brief tour of the estate’s gardens and snacks during the event, and organizers were happy with the turnout.
“The kids were really engaged in the book,” said Carleton Wood, the executive director of Hills & Dales.
The Hills & Dales Estate will host a pastel still life painting workshop on April 21 at 10 a.m. led by local artist, Chris Hagebak. The cost is $40 per person. All supplies are provided. To register, email info@hillsanddales.org or call (706) 882-3242.
